Silver SK328 knitting machine, a standard-gauge knitting machine with 200 needles, 4.5 mm apart, appeared on the market in 1978. It can automatically pattern (and select needles) using the punchcard reading mechanism. Silver SK328 has a built-in knit leader. Its unique color combination makes this machine stand out from previous models.

This model is also known as Silver Kantan 8.

The knit leader has a different design than a cylindrical roll in earlier models (SK322, SK323, SK324, SK325, SK326, and SK327). This improved design of the knit-leader not only makes the machine stand out with its more modern look better but also makes it lighter. Additionally, the machine has a built-in storage box (instead of a built-in tool tray and a stand-alone toolbox), which also makes this machine more functional. The toolbox lid has two compartments, unlike later models. Another “more advanced” (in comparison to the Silver SK325 and below) is two levers on the pattern center: one for card release and one to expand the pattern vertically by a factor of two.

Silver SK328 is very similar to the Studio mod. 328 knitting machine. Except, Silver SK328 was targeted to the Japanese markets (judging by the Japanese writing on the carriage, while Studio mod. 328 have English writing on the carriage.). Also, read the pros and cons of these machines described in my other article, dedicated to another clone – Studio mod. 360K.
