Silver Reed SK150 first appeared on the market in the early to mid 1980s. It is a bulky gauge knitting machine with 110 needles, 9 mm apart. This machine can knit thicker yarns (worsted weight sold in many stores for hand knitters) but the only patterning can be accomplished on this machine is manual.

Clones of this machine are also known under the Singer mod. 150 and Studio mod. 150. In Australia, these models are known under the Empisal Knitmaster mod. 150 name. Although, Silver Reed SK150 is the prettiest out of all of them with its coral shades.

Silver Reed SK150 was probably released only to the Japanese markets: bright colors (quite usual for knitting machines made for the Japanese markets) and Japanese wording on the carriage give it away. Its Western counter parts are Singer mod. 150 and Studio mod. 150. Brother’s bulky knitting machines with manual capabilities are Brother KH210, KH220 and KH230 (all also with 110 needles).

The manual describes that intarsia can be knitted on this machine without ay additional attachments (Just remove the tuck brushes). Refer to the A snip of the manual showing how to remove tuck brushes to knit intarsia.

Do not confuse this machine with a plastic bed mid-gauge knitting machine Silver Reed LK150.

Silver Reed also has a similar bulky-gauge only-manual patterning model Silver Reed SK151 (some of the machines are of the same orangish coral color and some are mint-green – so pretty!!). However, sinker plate for the SK151 model has built-in weaving brushes while in the setup for the Silver Reed SK150 model they are absent.

Knitting machine Silver Reed SK150 can be additionally accessorized with a ribber Silver Reed SR150 (or Studio/Singer ribbers with the same model number, SR150), PS150 pattern selector and knit leaders with model numbers KR6, KR7, KR10 and with some modifications KR11.
