Brother KH218 knitting machine was released to the market in the late 1950s. It has only manual capabilities. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first machine with long wires on the yarn guide unit to control yarn tension automatically.
The sinker plate carriage, similar to the Brother KH212 knitting machine, is permanently attached to the carriage. This is why the case is wider than knitting machines with detachable sinker plates. However, this machine has more similarities with the Brother KH35 knitting machine: unfolding ends (probably serving as extension rails for the carriage), and similarly looking knobs and levers on the carriage. Thus, Brother KH218 is very likely also a standard-gauge knitting machine with 184 needles.
The handle is detachable and screws onto the carriage.
I have not had a chance to work on this vintage machine yet. Below are the pictures of this beauty.
Apparently, Brother KH218 can be equipped with a ribber (or also known as “purl attachment”). Read more in my other article.
