Intarsia carriages allow for knitting different colored yarns on large sets of needles to create large colored patterns without long floats on the reverse side (unlike fair isle on a single bed). Very often, needles are brought to the most forward (but still working, NOT holding) position, and the yarn is hung on these needles. Additionally, often a yarn breaker is required. Refer to the manuals for individual intarsia carriages for specific details.
